This section was inspired by FAQ from all the travelers we have hosted and taken on an adventure over the years.  It's a few things we hope to share with you that might save you a few bucks here and there or just maybe make your time in Belize a more Memorable one. The FAQ is centered around food, accommodations and transportation.
This section is incomplete and will be updated throughout the year whenever I stumble across more great restaurants, accommodations, transport etc or something else crosses my mind to add to the list below. 
Currency
  • In Belize The USD is pegged  2 to 1, to the USD. So all throughout the country you can use both USD interchangeably. $1USD is equal to $2BZD always.
  • This makes for easy trade throughout the country BUT whenever you are traveling around exploring make sure to always ask if the prices are in Belize dollars or USD. Whenever someone gives you a price or if a price is listed on a menu, it's in BZD since that is the currency of the country. All lot of travelers get confused and pay for things in USD when in fact it was BZD( half the price)  and some people will be honest about the exchange but some might just keep the change if you don't ask.
  • Belize does not have those house of exchanges  you see on other countries in the area. So if you have pesos, euros or anything other than USD, you will be stuck with it until you leave the country. 
Airport 
  • When flying into the  Belize International Airport the only way to leave the airport is by Taxi/cab or flying on the domestic airlines Tropic Air or Maya Island air. At the moment the airport taxis have a monopoly on the price at the airport and have it set at 30-35usd for two people or less from the city  to the airport but you can get it for 20-25usd if you contact your accommodation prior to arriving and arranging an airport pickup with a taxi driver from the City.  
  • The airport is very small so you can expect to be out within an hour.
  • The airport is only 15mins away from Belize City. Belize City is the central hub of the country so from there you can find easy transportation to anywhere else in the country. 
Transportation around the country
  • Public bus: The main bus station is located in Belize City. This mod of transportation is the cheapest to get around the country but it does add about an hour to two hours on your travel time to a destination.  It's a 10min walk to/from the water taxis/ ferries. From the bus station you can catch a bus to all the other districts, towns and villages in the country. The buses are frequent and will come every 30mins to 1hr. They will have the destination they are going to marked on the front window. From Belize City to anywhere in the country is 6usd or less.

Belize City 
Belize City Is a great location to stop in and spend a day or two before a flight or after flying into the country. it's also the most convenient place to do the Cave tube, Zip lining and Mayan Temples from. It's a historic city being that it is the old capital and has a lot of culture waiting to be explored. 

Accommodations ( Hidden Gems)
  • Great budget option would be Travel Art Hostel. They are the only hostel in the City limits, so everything is conveniently around them in walking distance. You can look them up if you are looking for a dorm option in the City. Dorms start for around 20-25usd, a great budget option 
  • All other "hostels" are far outside the city and you will need a car or taxi to get anywhere.

  • Another great option for a stay in Belize City would be Casa De Shanrgila Airbnb. It's a newly built, clean, safe and cozy one bedroom apartment, with a full kitchen, living room and parking. It is centrally located and is in walking distance from the boat ferries and bus station. A great place for a couple or small family to stay that wants privacy amenities at a reasonable price. Bookable on most sites, It's priced around 60-70usd
  • Comes with great guest discount on tours.

Things to do & Self guided tours ​
  • City map walking tour with key points of interest and explore key historical sites
  • Rum tour at travelers Liquors
  • Zoo, you can catch a bus to the zoo for $2usd , it’s a rescue center
  • Boat ferry to the island of Caye Caulker for a day trip & beach day
  • Bus ride to San Ignacio for $4usd, walk around the town, walk to Cahal Pech Mayan Temple
  • Sleep and get some rest

​Night life and Restaurants 
  • ​There's a lot restaurants in the city to get food from. but the best would be the ones with great food and those with great food and a  more social & lounge vibe.
  • On the "strip" in Belize City, you can find Midtown restaurant, the central BTL Park food vendors and lucca's Restaurant. These are more site and eat with your family & friends. 
  • Sisha Lounge, The Tavern and Thirty Thursday's Restaurant are all restaurants Tapas Bars that turn into a more social and dancing vibe after 9pm. 
  • If you are looking for nightlife after 10pm in the city it's Sisha lounge and Thirsty Thursdays only. 

Caye Caulker 

Restaurants 
  • There's a lot of restaurants on Caye Caulker. But by far the only restaurant that stands out with their Belizean cuisines, made with fresh ingredients daily and healthier oils etc would be The Barefoot Caribe Restaurant.  Founded by a local family and is still fully Belizean own & ran. They have delicious Belizean dishes. My personal favorite the hot plate fajitas, burrito bowl, Lobster, fish, burgers...The list goes on but def stop in and check them out.
  • Affordable prices and amazing seafood options and more.
  • located on the beach with a great view under Thatch Palapa.
